Marcellin Champagnat

On our pilgrimage we will visit the area in France where Marcellin grew up and eventually started the Brothers. The Brothers refer to this area as "Champagnat country". Champagnat grew up in the rural areas south of Lyon in a region know as the 'Massif Central'. St Etienne and St Chamond are two larger towns in the area. We will stay for three nights at the Hermitage (which Marcellin built) and visit Marcellin's family home, his first parish, and a range of places associated with Marcellin's life and his foundation of the Brothers. In addition we will spend a day in Lyon and visit a range of sites connected with Champagnat. We will be the guests of the Brothers who will treat us to some traditional, rural, French hospitality. Click on the link "Marist Places" to take a virtual tour of the places we will visit.
